I made many of these little dolls some years ago when my first two girls were just little. It was one of those patterns that you just keep making because there are so many little girls that need one. Sandra was one of the last of that particular generation. She was named Sandra because she was made at the time when I thought we might not have anymore children and we wanted to give each of our children one of our parent’s names. We came up short one girl grandchild and therefore Grandma Sandy didn’t get a granddaughter named after her.
I know that a doll doesn’t quite cut it, really, but because of them both having this wild, curly, red hair… I had to do it. As dolls and toys come and go, she has been in the “adoption” box a time or two, has lost her bloomers, and has an ouchie on her wrist (or is that a faded “band-aid watch”?), and is “VERY loved”!!! But, she persistently keeps crawling back out of that adoption box, which she just recently did again (with a little help from me). She seems to have that same determination that I have seen in her name sake these many years, and hopefully, I have inherited. Like her name sake, she is always in that “special place” in my heart and when I hug her I just want to sit and snuggle with her. I hope someday that one of my children will choose to name one of their children Sandra, but in any event, this Sandra and the real Sandra will always be my favorite and have a special place deep in my heart.
Love Ya, Mom!
Happy Birthday!!!
