John!

January 28, 2010

Look at what he brought home this time… another work of art, a masterpiece! He has more artist in him than he will admit!

And handsome ta boot…

No! He is not available for marriage yet! Sorry girls…. (:

Have a nice day…

The Sad Old Wiseman…

January 24, 2010

We are working on a theater block at school and the Old Wiseman was supposed to make a debut at the first class. He accidentally got knocked down and his strings are hopelessly tangled…

He is very sad and stressed about it!!! I am not sure if I should restring him so he can lead the class next week or wait and show the children how he is built underneath (much easier to do when his clothes can be moved around without the strings in the way???) Right now he is in the hospital resting and waiting for the “doctor’s” prognosis…

Hope all your strings stay straight today…

Update: The doctors decided that, for his self esteem, he needed to have his strings repaired so he was able to do his part in presenting our Marionette Theater Block at school. He went into class with confidence and “stole the show!”

What is it with little boys and distruction?

Before Matthew…

After Matthew…

While I am definitely mourning the loss of my chimney (which I really loved) I am glad it is down and that Matt didn’t get hurt while he was on the roof “playing”! He is such a hard worker and I am sooooo appreciative of his “hard work ethics”. He is truly amazing… did I ever tell you he was out chopping cords of firewood and the age of 12!!! I can’t believe I let him do it and bought the ax for him??? What was I thinking!!! But he seems to love hard work and I am the VERY grateful recipient of his love!!! and so again I am saying, “Thank You Matt!!!”

On my needle…

January 17, 2010

or hook actually… because this is crochet instead of knitting. See the round disc in the center of the picture…? This is my attempt at this

Mine turned out big… still working on the felting thing. But I love the way it feels and the yellow one is next to be felted. These stitch up so quickly and I love them when they are done…yipee for bean bags!!!

Hope you will try some…

Joy

January 17, 2010

Joy is when you are browsing through your favorite blogs and getting soooo inspired and then you look at the clock and it says it is only 7:30 pm…. still two hours before bedtime!!! (: Yipee!!!

Crisp

January 15, 2010

I have been thinking about the feeling of this season, the warmth of Christmas and Hanukah with all their focus on lights and festivities and now that they are over we seem to find ourselves in this looooong struggle with cold, darkness and not much to do or look forward to for a stretch. But when I think about the snow and the way the sunlight sparkles and the fun to be had with throwing snow balls at someone you love (strange way to show affection?), the warm fire and the hot chocolate to be had after the rambunctious frolic, something inside me is encouraged and inspired to continue on and find new adventure in this new year…

And there is Annie’s birthday and Baby Davidson coming up next, and that is really something to get super excited about!!!

Have a nice day…

Apples and Blueberries

January 15, 2010

Matt Emily and I planted a Gravenstein Apple today! I am VERY happy. I hope it likes to live at our house… next are the three bluberries…. Thanks Matt and Emily!!!

Earthquake Update…

January 13, 2010

We have some “good news” and we haveĀ  some “bad news”…

First the bad news… we have leaks around our poor misplaced chimney…

I had noticed that the chimney had been damaged and repaired by previous earthquakes so was privy to watch out for the leaks, and sure enough… I caught it before any real damage was done by putting towels around it while it rained the last few days.

Now the good news…

Mike “fixed” our front door… He wanted to take a hammer to it and “adjust” the hinges but I asked him to wait and let someone look at it to tell us what the best way to fix it would be (this house is my baby). He graciously agreed. Then yesterday he was looking at it again, more closely, and found a WOODEN BEAD, of all things, stuck on the floor between the door and the jam. He pulled it out and viola… It works perfectly !!! My hero!!! Can’t imagine where the bead came from or got there? It reminds me of the time the farmers found an oat straw stuck through a tree after a tornado??? The forces of nature whilst in God’s hand! Amazing!!!

Talk to you soon!

More on the Big One…

January 12, 2010

Just had some photos of some of what a quake can do…

This actually hit our hard cork floor when it came down…

Front door won’t close, we’re thankful for our enclosed front porch…

Our chimney…

Our neighbors…

and a dozen or more of these “little” guys…

We’ve notice some thumping pipes and haven’t checked to see if we are still on our post and pins underneath the house…but we didn’t lose any of our antique glass windows that, according to the window repair doctor, are worth more than what we paid for the house (because we still have so much of it in the house) (:

We found dresser drawers opened and my computer and monitor were half off of my desk (one sliding off the front and the other sliding off the back, go figure?)

We’ll keep you posted as we “roll” along…

We weathered a big one…

January 10, 2010

We just experienced the biggest earthquake I have ever been in… I can remember 3 big ones in my lifetime. This one was a 6.5. Our sturdy Craftsman just rolled with it and I am proud of her, she’s a grand old lady!

We are all safe and sound. A few new cracks in the walls, a bit of broken glass, a crooked chimney (shucks), a front door that won’t close (double shucks), a downed chandelier and jangled nerves… but other than that we are all ok! (: Can’t beat a solid 1922 Craftsman!

We are still assessing damages and haven’t determined yet if Emily’s room was hit by the earthquake or if Hurricane Emily went through at the same time the earthquake hit…

I guess that, instead of cleaning her room, she was working on her latest cartoon drawings…

I’m not sure what this guy is doing, but he just works!

See ya soon,
