I have been thinking about the feeling of this season, the warmth of Christmas and Hanukah with all their focus on lights and festivities and now that they are over we seem to find ourselves in this looooong struggle with cold, darkness and not much to do or look forward to for a stretch. But when I think about the snow and the way the sunlight sparkles and the fun to be had with throwing snow balls at someone you love (strange way to show affection?), the warm fire and the hot chocolate to be had after the rambunctious frolic, something inside me is encouraged and inspired to continue on and find new adventure in this new year…

And there is Annie’s birthday and Baby Davidson coming up next, and that is really something to get super excited about!!!

Have a nice day…

Matt Emily and I planted a Gravenstein Apple today! I am VERY happy. I hope it likes to live at our house… next are the three bluberries…. Thanks Matt and Emily!!!

We have some “good news” and we have  some “bad news”…

First the bad news… we have leaks around our poor misplaced chimney…

I had noticed that the chimney had been damaged and repaired by previous earthquakes so was privy to watch out for the leaks, and sure enough… I caught it before any real damage was done by putting towels around it while it rained the last few days.

Now the good news…

Mike “fixed” our front door… He wanted to take a hammer to it and “adjust” the hinges but I asked him to wait and let someone look at it to tell us what the best way to fix it would be (this house is my baby). He graciously agreed. Then yesterday he was looking at it again, more closely, and found a WOODEN BEAD, of all things, stuck on the floor between the door and the jam. He pulled it out and viola… It works perfectly !!! My hero!!! Can’t imagine where the bead came from or got there? It reminds me of the time the farmers found an oat straw stuck through a tree after a tornado??? The forces of nature whilst in God’s hand! Amazing!!!

Talk to you soon!

Just had some photos of some of what a quake can do…

This actually hit our hard cork floor when it came down…

Front door won’t close, we’re thankful for our enclosed front porch…

Our chimney…

Our neighbors…

and a dozen or more of these “little” guys…

We’ve notice some thumping pipes and haven’t checked to see if we are still on our post and pins underneath the house…but we didn’t lose any of our antique glass windows that, according to the window repair doctor, are worth more than what we paid for the house (because we still have so much of it in the house) (:

We found dresser drawers opened and my computer and monitor were half off of my desk (one sliding off the front and the other sliding off the back, go figure?)

We’ll keep you posted as we “roll” along…

We just experienced the biggest earthquake I have ever been in… I can remember 3 big ones in my lifetime. This one was a 6.5. Our sturdy Craftsman just rolled with it and I am proud of her, she’s a grand old lady!

We are all safe and sound. A few new cracks in the walls, a bit of broken glass, a crooked chimney (shucks), a front door that won’t close (double shucks), a downed chandelier and jangled nerves… but other than that we are all ok! (: Can’t beat a solid 1922 Craftsman!

We are still assessing damages and haven’t determined yet if Emily’s room was hit by the earthquake or if Hurricane Emily went through at the same time the earthquake hit…

I guess that, instead of cleaning her room, she was working on her latest cartoon drawings…

I’m not sure what this guy is doing, but he just works!

See ya soon,

Just wanted to share this website… Click on the link on the right for “The Latest Happenings  Meeting our Quinoa Farmers”… Love what these guys are doing…

Here is the result of putting a black dragon’s egg (a huge rock) in the bottom of your closet, nestled in a pile of king sized sheets (unfolded and scrumpled) and waiting until the dragon trainer discovers that it has hatched… (:

This is a three headed Black Dragon baby being trained to become a Red Dragon… she has been named Lava Flame Volcano and so far has been a good influence on Fighto who can be a bit fiesty now and then (or most of the time). She has a very sweet disposition… There are still two more eggs!

Training has gone a bit more smoothly since Annie made Emily some Dragon treats to help in the training process…

Dragons love ‘em!

I have always dreamed of learning how to cook on a woodstove… but for whatever reasons it never occurred to me to cook on the one we have. I guess I always had it in my mind that the wood stove had to look like and be a “real” woodstove like this

But, being our little stove has been up and running and putting out some pretty impressive heat during these last few days, I have been putting water on to heat and even tried a few very successful experiments (: Can’t wait to try some soup…or beans, or grilled cheese sandwiches or…hmmmm, lots of possibilities (: Kinda messes up my Raw Foods diet… well it IS supposed to be 60/40…

What’s cooking at your house…

Annie and Emily’s plots now have some lovely homes on them…

Fencing is up..

Blue prints being designed…

Two busy architect/contractors…

The carpenters are finished and went home…

Emy’s homestead… (notice the odd looking marshmellow/pretzelstick/black gumdrop item on the upper right..that’s a horse chewing on Annie’s fence…naughty horse (:

Annie’s homestead…

A good day’s work, don’t you think?

Only three plots left in the exclusive Snowflake Village… Hurry!!! They won’t last long…
